Linn's hierarchy of a system, first talked about in the late70s, is now in both hifi legend and hifi fact. At the time causing great furore, Linn were the first people to state that the most important part of any system is the Source, followed by the amplifier/switching/Control and then lastly the power amps/speakers/Playback. As most British hifi manufacturers at that time made only loudspeakers and said they were the most important part this honesty didn't make them too many friends in the trade, even if the public loved it! This is why all Linn systems are described in this fashion.

What's the difference between a DS and a DSM?

A DS outputs to an amplifier, Klimax and Akurate DSM also have a built-in preamplifier to connect directly to a power amplifier

The Majik DSM also includes a full amplifier, so connected to speakers it can be your complete system in one box. As of 1st May it has HDMI inputs to get cracking sound from blu-ray/sat/games
